Courses and Certification Programs

We think it’s a good idea! We offer four certification programs that are backed by our four university partners, Clemson University, Ohio State University, University of Kansas, and University of Washington. Earning a certification ensures that you gain credibility and deliver business results on your learning investment. You do not need to decide that you want to pursue certification when you start taking classes. Any classes you take that are part of a certification program will count towards certification.

There are no pre-requisites required for any of the certification programs.

No, self-paced eLearning courses do not count towards certification. The only exception is the Reliability Engineering Certification (REC) online program. The REC online version of the course must be taken in order for the course to count towards certification.

No, classes must either all be taken in the live format (in-person or live-virtual) or all in the online self-paced format. The online self-paced format can only count towards certification for Reliability Engineering Certification (REC) program. If you choose to do the REC Online program, all courses must be taken in the online self-paced format.

No, although we encourage you to take at least one class at the university that you would like to receive your certification from. Note that Ohio State University does require at least one class be taken at their location for them to issue the certification. Our other university partners, Clemson University, University of Kansas, and Washington State University, have no location requirements.

Yes, you will earn 2.1 CEUs for each class. The Reliability and Asset Management Leader series earns 6.3 CEUs. Online courses also earn CEU’s, ranging from 0.1 – 1.0 CEUs and are noted on your course certificate.

Yes, absolutely! A class can be used to count for more than one certification program. For example, if you take Maintenance Planning and Scheduling, that would count as both a required course for the Planning and Scheduling Certification (PSC) and an elective course for the Maintenance Management Certification (MMC). If you earn your PSC, you can also earn your MMC by just completing Maintenance Management Skills.

You can register for MMC exam online HERE or the PSC exam online HERE. Upon registration, you will receive a detailed email from us with instructions for how to sign-up for the appropriate exam based on the classes you took.

Yes, you can retake the exam at no cost. After you take your exam, we will email you to let you know your score. If you score below 70%, you will not pass and we will provide instructions on how to retake the exam.

We recommend reviewing the study guides that are included when you purchase an exam. Each study guide includes a review of content from the course as well as practice questions. We also recommend reviewing the knowledge assessments from each class.

You will be able to access your certificate of completion in your LCE Marketplace account after you complete your course evaluation. Your certificate will remain accessible as part of the course evaluation. To access your certificate, log in to your LCE Marketplace account and go to “My Account”, which is on the top right side of the page. When you hover over My Account, a pop-up menu will open. Click “Courses & Evaluations”. Click on the course to complete your evaluation if you haven’t yet. Once completed, you can click on the certificate symbol next to the evaluation to open your certificate of completion, or you can click on the evaluation to open it and then click to download your certificate at the top.

The only difference between in-person and live-virtual is the mode of delivery of the class. The content and activities are the same. Both in-person and live-virtual classes count towards certification and a certification can be earned by mixing in-person and live-virtual classes.

Why choose Life Cycle Institute?

The Life Cycle Institute is the longest running outfit dedicated to maintenance and reliability continuing professional education in the market today. Our certification programs are endorsed by more universities (4) than other training providers. Our classroom courses allow subject matter expert instructors and participants to collaborate in-person and virtually with industry peers while enhancing skills in asset management, maintenance, and reliability standards.

In addition to the instructor-led courses, all learners that come through Life Cycle Institute will receive free access to eLearning versions of the courses for reference purposes. Our eLearning courses are modularized and comprehensive, providing 6-8 hours of learning content and dozens of downloadable tools they can apply on the job.

Facilitators who practice what they teach and teach what they practice

All Life Cycle Institute facilitators are professional consulting engineers who spend most of their time at client sites. Certified learning professionals with reliability and maintenance credentials (CMRP, CRL) design our courses, and the content comes alive with lessons and stories from real life experience. We have a formal instructor credentialing process that ensures LCI instructors meet our delivery standards in terms of facilitation and active learning strategies.

Course content updated with the latest standards, best practices, tools and methods

Your teams will benefit by learning current best practices – the approaches, tools and methods that our facilitators are using successfully in the field. You can save time and money by not making the same mistakes that others have learned from!

Adult learning methods that emphasize learning by doing

The Life Cycle Institute applies proven adult learning theory and practice in course design and delivery. Through learning activities and simulations you’ll discover how to change the way things work in your organization – and you’ll remember what you’ve learned.

The Life Cycle Institute is the most uniquely qualified and economical selection to achieve your competency-building goals.

Absolutely! Life Cycle Institute certification programs offer a unique and verifiable return on your learning investment. Our REC credential boasts a low average of 10x1 ROI from the Capstone credential alone, not to mention the ongoing return of increased capabilities to support your program.

Another “direct results” program is our High Impact Learning engagements. In High-Impact Learning engagements, we work with your organization to define a program with measures before and after training to prove the business results that our programs deliver in terms of maintenance costs, labor efficiency, failure avoidance and OEE improvements (availability, throughput and quality). When you add-on onsite coaching post-training, the results are even more impressive.

3A Learning is the Life Cycle Institute’s proprietary training methodology. Learning is a process. The classroom is important, but the fact is that most learning takes place when we apply the tools and techniques we discovered in the learning event. Learning is a process of alignment, assimilation, and application. We call this process, 3A Learning.

Align: Before participating in a learning event, participants should have a thorough understanding of what they are expected to learn, how their behavior is expected to change, the results they are expected to achieve, and how these results contribute to the overall goals of the organization.

Assimilate: An effective learning event will engage you to build relevant skills and knowledge that you decide to focus on and practice in the class. A successful learning engagement will provide opportunities for you to practice what you learn and return to work prepared to apply what you have learned. If not, then you may have an awareness of and even a desire to apply these tools, but no practical experience in how to do it. Instructors that use their knowledge of how people learn to create an active environment that embraces participants’ prior knowledge and unique learning styles. When they facilitate, they appear as a “guide by the side.”

Apply: Applying what you have learned is where 80% of the learning takes place. It is using the skills and knowledge within your work environment that makes the learning stick, causing a behavior change that produces desired results.

Engaging with the Life Cycle Institute for training ensures you will be part of the A3 learning process – align, assimilate, apply – and the result will be learning that produces behavior change and the results you desire.
